He appears in leading roles in the most prestigious opera houses and festivals including the ROH Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opéra National and Théatre du Chatelet in Paris, Theater an der Wien, the Berliner Staatsoper, Théatre de la Monnaie, Netherlands Opera, the Barcelona Liceu, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Metropolitan Opera, the Chicago Lyric, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City Operas, the Salzburg Festival, Glyndebourne, Edinburgh, Aix-en-Provence, Verbier, and the London BBC Proms.
His orchestral concert work and recital partnership with pianist Julius Drake, in adventurous programs ranging from the Baroque to contemporary music, have been presented by the world's leading concert venues including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Wiener Konzerthaus, Brussels' Palais des Beaux Arts, the Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Bremen Musikfest, the Palau des Arts Valencia, Teatro de la Zarzeula Ciclo de Lied in Madrid, the San Sebastian Festival, and the Cité de la Musique in Paris.
Mr. Mehta is now known to a wide audience through various TV profiles by CBS-TV, A&E, ORF 2, TW-1, Arte and ARD. He was nominated for the Olivier Award for his portrayal of Orlando at the ROH, Covent Garden. He holds an honors degree in German Literature from Yale University.
Upcoming engagements include aria concerts at the 2011 Salzburg Festival, Arsamenes (Xerses) and Telemaco (Telemaco) for Theater an der Wien, the title role in Orlando for La Monnaie, and the world premiere of George Benjamin’s new opera Written on Skin in 2012 in Aix-en-Provence, with further performances in Amsterdam, Toulouse, and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Upcoming recitals (in partnership with Julius Drake) will take him to the Berliner Staatsoper, the Cuvillies-Theater in Munich, and the Opera National du Rhin Strasbourg. An aria concert tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester is planned for summer 2012.
Bejun Mehta records for Harmonia Mundi. His Handel aria album Ombra Cara, with the Freiburger Barock Orchester conducted by René Jacobs, was awarded the 2011 ECHO Klassik Prize in the category 'Opera Recording of the Year'. His next solo CD, Down by the Salley Gardens, a program of English romantic songs, was released earlier this month. The DVD release of Theodora (Naxos) from the Salzburg Festival 2009 has been shortlisted for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the only opera production in its category.
