Dennis Godburn passed away in May 2011. During his life, Dennis pursued a distinguished career as performer of baroque, classical and modern bassoons, concertizing throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, South America and Australia.

Principal bassoon of the Orchestra of St. Luke's since 1976, Dennis was a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, Music@Menlo, New England Bach Festival, Boston Early Music Festival, Handel & Haydn Society, Waverly Consort, Philharmonia Baroque, and The Classical Band, among others. He appeared as soloist on the Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center and at the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Ravinia Festival, the Kennedy Center and on Live from Lincoln Center national television broadcasts.

Dennis can be heard in recordings spanning medieval to contemporary repertoire on RCA Records, Sony Classics, L'Oiseau Lyre, Columbia Masterworks, Harmonia Mundi, EMI and Deutsche Grammophon. With Helicon, he made the first American recording of the Mozart and Beethoven Quintets for Piano and Winds on period instruments.

Dennis performed on ten Helicon symposiums. His unsurpassed artistry, charm, and wit will be greatly missed.

Contributions can be made to the Dennis Godburn Memorial Scholarship Fund under the auspicies of The Orchestra of St. Luke's.  Funds contributed to the Dennis Godburn Memorial Scholarship Fund will support educational and related expenses for a gifted bassoon student in need, either applying to college or enrolled in a college or music conservatory.
