Immigrants in 18th-Century London

Works by Handel, Geminiani, Hayes/Carbonelli, Hellendaal, Haym, and Avison

Exploring the immigrants who came over the cliffs of Dover to make London of the early 18th century one of Europe’s great cultural capitals. This tide of new arrivals included the famous George Frideric Handel, who would become the greatest composer of his adopted country for over a century, and others who followed the craze for Archangelo Corelli, the “Orpheus of his age.”
